Mr. Benjamin F. Boyd Jr., MBA
God’s Faithful and Distinguished Man of Service
With Deepest Sympathy The Kansas City Carrousels Chapter mourns the loss of Carrafella Ben Boyd, Jr., beloved spouse of Carrousel Karen P. Boyd, Vice President of the Kansas City Carrousels Chapter.
Carrafella Ben was deeply respected and admired throughout the Kansas City community. His gracious spirit, steadfast support, and warm presence were a source of strength and joy to all who knew him. Whether standing proudly beside Carrousel Karen at events or cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, his enthusiasm and love for life were unmistakable.
He was a cherished part of the Carrafella circle, and his joyful commitment to family, friendship, and community will be remembered always. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of the Carrousels family.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Carrousel Karen and the entire Boyd family. May you find comfort in the love that surrounds you and peace in the memories you hold dear.
Benjamin Franklin Boyd Jr. was born on August 17, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the first born to the union of Benjamin F. Boyd Sr. and LaRue G. Cole. Ben (“Butch” to his family and close friends) from his earliest beginnings led a purposeful life of service to others. He secured a paper route, delivering The Call throughout the neighborhood during his elementary school years, continued his education at Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas, excelling academically and at basketball. Afterwards, Ben developed an interest in financial services that became his lifelong passion.
Ben pursued higher education by earning an undergraduate business management degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC), and a subsequent MBA from Regis College. Ben married and enjoyed successful careers at Amoco Oil and Merrill Lynch. During that time, he was blessed with two daughters.
In addition to family and career pursuits, Ben was a devoted and life member of his beloved Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., initially inducted as an undergraduate at UMKC and continuing his commitment and service as a member of the Beta Lambda Chapter in Kansas City, Missouri. Ben eventually followed in the footsteps of his father as an independent financial services agent, providing counsel and planning to over 200 clients for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2021.
Ben’s career was distinguished by numerous industry and community recognitions, including awards received from Merrill Lynch, national investment firms, and the Black Achievers of Kansas City. Ben faithfully served as a member of St. James UMC Alumni Association, the Henry W. Bloch School of Management Advisory Board, and The African American Student Union (TAASU) of UMKC. Ben was a fantastic cook and enjoyed making barbeque, baked beans, dinner rolls, and the Boyd rum cream pie recipe. He enjoyed thrifting, sharing words of encouragement, and collecting sports and music memorabilia—especially KU, Chiefs, and Kansas City Jazz treasures.
After a lengthy illness and blessed to celebrate his 75th birthday on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Ben made a peaceful transition the evening of August 19, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Karen Patrice Boyd; daughters (from a previous marriage): Amber Noelle Pagan and Mercedes Alexis Boyd; grandsons: Zylen and Zander; son and daughter (Karen’s children): Andrew and Lauren; sisters: Cheri Payton (Preston) and Stephanie Boyd; and a host of extended family and friends.
Rest well, beloved and faithful servant of God.
You are cherished and will be missed.

Deborah “Binky” Seay
Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face,
There to sing forever of His saving grace;
On the streets of Glory let me lift my voice;
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.
To know Carrousel Binky is to have an appreciation for a well-told story. Nobody could weave a
tale like Binky. She was a gem—walking, living history—an encyclopedic fount of Africa-
ancestored narratives. And if you were blessed to be in her presence while she was chronicling
an account, all you could do was lean in and attentively listen. Last night, November 29 th , at 89,
Binky's personal journey and story ended.
While our hearts are broken, we hold on to the knowledge that she meant so much to so
many—her friends, her family, her church, and her beloved Carrousels. In Carrousels, Binky was
a confidant, a mother, an auntie, and the Philadelphia chapter's organizer, later serving as The
Carrousels, Inc. national president. On a trip with her husband to Washington, DC, Binky met
several Carrousels who encouraged her to begin a chapter. That she did, and never looked back.
We owe much to her leadership, guidance, and incredible sense of humor.
In 2023, she watched as her granddaughter, Alexandra “Allie” Seay, was inducted into the
chapter and is now continuing her legacy. Binky leaves behind two daughters, Stephanie and
Angelique, and a son, Geoffrey. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, and son Andre.
Funeral or memorial service arrangements have yet to be planned. But I will keep you posted.
In the meantime, Carrousel cards, well wishes, and condolences can be sent to Carrousel Allie
and Binky’s daughter, Stephanie. Please pray for her family and our Carrousel community,
because we all loved Binky beyond measure.
